Vietnam

05

If I had one story to tell about Vietnam it would be the one from the Ha Giang Loop.

To give you a little bit of context, Vietnam was for me the worst country of South Est Asia to drive a scooter. And the traffic on the Ha Giang Loop can be crazy on holidays.

I am a very inexperienced driver since I learnt how to drive in Thailand and I never got a driving license. So I admit deciding to do the loop on public holidays with a shitty weather was maybe not the best decision...

But it was truly one of my favorite experience, definitely my favorite in Vietnam.

I had the chance to do this loop with amazing people who I was considering, at the end of the loop, as part of my family. We experienced so much together... We got really scared together the first day when we got caught by the night and the fog in the middle of nowhere in the mountains with crazy night truck drivers.

We also lost one of the scooter that we had to ditch the second day on the border between Vietnam and China. And we ended up the loop by taking the wrong road...if the mud path were we got lost can be called a road...

So yes, the North is absolutely amazing! People are truly kind to you, the food is way better than the south and the landscape way more impressive.

But to be honest a was a little bit disappointed by Vietnam. I think I had too much expectations on this country. Maybe because I have family from Vietnam and I wanted so much to love this country. I was so honored to meet my French Vietnamese cousin in Hoi An and then so disappointed by the attitude of some of the local. Maybe because this country became too touristic, the local became sometimes a little be hostile?

To be fair the only rude people I met were the local who were working in a tourism related job and mainly in the south. But the kindness of the others was not big enough to compensate my disappointment.
